Living In Malaysia > Health Care

Before Your Arrive

You and your family may need vaccinations or boosters before moving. Check with your family doctor. It is advisable that you are vaccinated
against Hepatitis B before coming to Malaysia or soon after you arrive. Hepatitis C can be contracted by eating infected sea food so avoid
eateries that look unsanitary. Typhoid outbreaks are rare but can happen. In urban areas Malaria is not a risk. Dengue is the more likely disease
to be contracted from mosquito bites and, in rare cases, can be fatal. Again though such outbreaks in urban areas are rare and an expatriate
would be very unlucky indeed to contract any of the above.

Whilst You Are Here

Most expatriates working in Malaysia have private medical insurance that will cover them for treatment in private hospitals in Malaysia.
The standard of private hospitals in Kuala Lumpur is generally good. Private hospitals are a relatively new development and so the ones
that do exist are modern and well equipped. Many Malaysian doctors have been trained in the UK and Ireland and to a lesser extent
Australasia. The same is true for dentistry/orthodontics. The provision of private care is generally good.
