Social Life and Leisure

There is a whole host of things to do in your spare time. Beach and golf resorts are popular over long weekends. Parachuting, go-karting,
motor racing, whitewater rafting, micro lighting, rock climbing, equestrian sports, mountain biking are all available within a 2 hour drive from KL.

There are well established rugby, soccer and cricket clubs that welcome expatriate players and a whole host of informal "clubs" catering for
sports such as ice hockey, tennis, netball, softball, basketball and touch rugby. Golf is very popular and at the last count there were approximately
40 golf clubs within a one-hour radius of Kuala Lumpur. With very few exceptions most clubs will accept non-member walk-ins. Increasingly, golf
clubs are offering yearly memberships. This especially suits expatriates who are here temporarily and do not require an expensive full membership.

There are also several theatre groups who stage productions in English as well as a growing number of comedy venues. The Malaysian
Philharmonic Orchestra are another expatriate favourite. No Black Tie is a club that regularly stages musical performances of varying genres, from
classical to jazz to R&B (noblacktie@hotmail.com). There are also a small number of museums and art galleries in KL that will be of interest to
expatriates and visitors alike.

One of the best things about living in Malaysia is that there are so many interesting places you can visit within a 3-hour plane ride,
so that long weekend in Bali, or your dream visit to Angkor Wat, is a very easy thing to do.

The following list contains information on business and social organizations with either an expatriate orientation or of interest
to expatriates.
